Why solubility of Haloalkanes in water is very low ?

Text Solution

In water, the `H_2O` molecules are held together by strong H-bonds. Despite the slight polority of aryl halide, aryl halide cannot from H-bonds with water molecules. As aryl halides cannot form new bonds with water molecules, it cannot break the stiong H-bonds present in between water molecule. Thus aryl halide though slightly polar are not soluble in water.
