From HF and Hl which is more acidic and why ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The relative acid strength of ` HF, HCl, HBr and ID depends upon their bond dissociation enthalpies. Since the bond dissociation enthalphy oflI - X bond decrease from H - F to H - I as the size of halogen atom increase from F to I. Therefore, the acid strength increase in the opposite order i.e. the acidic strength Increase in the order :
`HFlt HCl lt HBr lt HI`.
