What are the factors affecting the solubility of gas in liquid ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(i) Nature of the gas and the solvent
(ii) Effect of temperature
Gas + solvent `harr` Solution + Heat
as this process is exothermic, so increase in temperature will shift the equilibrium in backward direction and hence decrease solubility.
Effect of pressure : Increase in pressure will increase the number of molecules per unit volume and hence increase the solubility.
