Transition elements and their compounds ...

Transition elements and their compounds are found to be good catalysts. Give examples.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Many transition metals and their compounds are found to act as catalyst. Because of the presence of the Incomplete d-subshell, they can form unstable intermediate products with the reactants.
For example : Finally divided nickel, Platinum and Palladium are used as a catalyst in hydrogenation. Iron and molybdenium are used as catalyst in the manufacture of `NH_3` from `N_2` and `H_2` gases in Habber.s Process.
