Briefly describe the various types of habitats.

Explanation

There are three main types of habitats as described below:
(i) Terrestrial habitat: The organisms that live on land are called terrestrial organisms and their habitat is called terrestrial habitat. For example, desert, grassland, mountain and forest are terrestrial habitats.
(ii) Aquatic habitat: The organisms that live in lakes, ponds, rivers and oceans are called aquatic organisms and their habitats are called aquatic habitats. For example, (a) Saline water habitat. Oceans, seas, certain lakes etc.(b) Fresh-water habitat: Rivers, ponds, lakes.
(iii) Aerial or Arboreal habitat: The habitat of the animals that mostly live in air is called aerial or arboreal-habitat. Most birds and winged animals are arboreal in habit. These organisms are adapted for aerial existence as no organism is born in air.
