What problem of atomic structure was solved by the discovery of neutron ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The discovery of the neutron solved the problem of the actual mass of the atom. For example carbon has 6 protons and 6 electrons. But the mass of carbon is 12. Hence, there must be 6 other particles of the same mass as proton which contribute to the total mass.
