Explain how Robert Hooke discovered cell.

Robert Hooke in 1665 observed slices of cork which is a part of the bark of a tree under simple magnifying device. He took thin slices of cork and observed them under a microscope. He observed partitioned boxes or compartments in the cork slice which appeared like a honey comb. He also observed that one box was separated from the other by a wall or partition. He coined the term "cell" for each box.
