Explain why is it difficult for a fire man to hold a hose, which ejects large amount of water at a high velocity

This is because the hose pipe has a tendency to go backward: Ejection of water at a high velocity is the faction which causes the hose pipe to move backward (the reaction). This is in accordance to Newton.s third law of motion.
