A 8000 kg engine pulls a train of 5 wagons each of 200 kg, along a horizontal track. If the engine exerts a orce of 40,000 N and the track offers friction force of 5000 N, then calculate :
the net accelerating force

Mass of engine , `m_(1) = 8000 kg`
Mass of each wagon `m_(2) = 2000 kg`
Number of wagons, n = 5
Total mass of wagon , m
`= 2000 kg xx 5 = 10,000 kg`
Force exerted by engine, `F_(1) = 40,000 N`
Friction force of the track , `F_(2) = 40,000 N`
Net acclerating force, `F = F_(1) - F_(2)`
`= (40,000 - 5000)N`
`= 35,000 N`
