An object of mass 100 kg is accelerated ...

An object of mass 100 kg is accelerated uniformly from a velocity of `5 ms^(-1)` to` 8 ms^( -1)` in 6s. Calculate the initial and final momentum of the object. Also find the force exerted on the object.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Mass of the object, m = 100 kg
Initial velocity, `u = 5 ms^(-1)`
Final velocity `v = 8 ms^(-1)`
Time, t = 6s
Initial momentum `= m xx u`
`= 100 kg xx 5 ms^(-1)`
`=500 kg ms^(-1)`
Final momentum `= m xx v`
`= 100 kg xx 8 ms^(-1)`
`= 800 kg ms^(-1)`
Force, `F = (mv - m u)/(t)`
`F = ((800 - 500) kg ms^(-1))/(6s)`
F = 50 N
