The volume of 50 g of a substance is `20 cm^3`. If the density of water is `1 gcm^-3`, will the substance float or sink ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Mass = 50 g
Volume = `20 cm^(3)`
Density = ?
Density `= ("Mass")/("Volume")`
`= (50g)/(20 cm^(3))`
Relative density
`= ("Density of a substance")/("Density of water")`
`= (2.5 g cm^(-3))/(1g cm^(-3))`
= 2.5
Since the relative density is greater than 1, therefore the substance will sink.
