What are wavelength, frequency, time period and amplitude of a sound wae?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(a) The distance between two consecutive or two consecutive troughs is called wavelength.
(b) The number of oscillations per unit time is called the frequency of the sound wave.
(c ) The time period of a wave is the time taken by wave to travel through a distance equal to its wavelength
(d) The magnitude of the maximum displacement the vibrating particles of the medium on either side their mean undisturbed position is called the amplitude of the wave.
OR
The distance between two nearest points in a wave which are in the same phase of vibration is called the wavelength. It is represented by `lamda` (lambda). Its SI unit is metre (m).
(ii) The magnitude of the maximum displacement of the vibrating particles of the medium on either side of their mean undisturbed position is called the amplitude of the wave. The extent to which the medium is impressed when the sound wave passes through the medium measures the amplitude. It is usually represented by the letter .A.. Its SI unit metre (m).
