2 g of a mixture of CO and `CO_2` on reaction with excess `I_(2)O_(5)` produced `2.54g` of `I_2` . What will be the mass percentage of `CO_(2)` in the original mixture ?

A

`35% `

B

`70% `

C

`30%`

D

`60%`

The correct Answer is:
C

`5CO + I _(2) O _(5) to 5 CO _(2) + I _(2)`
Moles of `I _(2) O _(5) = ( 2. 54)/(25.4) = 0.01 = 0.05` moles of CO
Weight of `CO = 0.05 xx 28 = 1. 4 g ,` Weight of `CO _(2) = 2 - 1. 4 = 0. 6 g`
Hence percentage of `CO _(2) = ( 0.6)/(2) xx 100 = 30%`
