Calculate the number of atoms of oxygen ...

Calculate the number of atoms of oxygen present in `88 g ""CO_2`. What would be the mass of CO having the same number of oxygen atoms?

A

98 g CO

B

120 g CO

C

112 g CO

D

132 g CO

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

`therefore` Molar mass of `CO _(2) = 44` and it has `32 g O _(2)` and one molecule of `O _(2)` has atoms.
`because 44 g CO _(2) -= 2 N ` atoms of O
`therefore 88 g CO _(2)-= (2 xx 6. 02 xx 10 ^(23) xx 88)/(44) ` atoms of `O = 24. 092 xx 10 ^(23)` atoms of Oxygen
Also, molar mass of `CO =28` and it has 16 g O and one atom of O in one molecular of CO.
`because `N atoms of O are present in `= 28 g CO`
`therefore 24.092 xx 10 ^(23)` atoms of O are present in `(28 xx 24.092 xx 10 ^( 23))/( 6. 2 xx 10 ^(23)) = 112 g CO`
