Metallic tin in the presence of HCl is oxidized by `K_2 Cr_2 O_7` to stannic chloride. What volume of decinormal dichromate solution will be reduced by I goftin? (Atomic weight of Sn=118.7u)

A

336.9 mL

B

235.6 mL

C

465.23 mL

D

398.56 mL

The correct Answer is:
A

Balanced chemical equation is: ` underset(588 K)( 2K_2 Cr_2 O_7 )+ 3Sn + underset(256 .1 g)( 28 HCl to 4 KCl + 4 Cr Cl_3 + 3s Cl_4 + 14 H_2 O`
Now 356.1 g Sn react with ` K_2 Cr_2 O_7 = 49 `Decinormal `K_2 Cr_2 O_7` solution means 1000 mL solution contains 4.9g `K_2 Cr_2 O_7`, that is, 4.9g `K_2 Cr_2 O_7` are present in 1000 mL solution. Thus, 1.651 g `K_2 Cr_2 O_7` will be present in `= (1000)/(4.9 ) xx 1.651= 336.9` mL
