When NaCl is doped with `MgCl_(2)` the nature of defect produced is

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C

When small amount of `MgCl_(2)` is added to NaCl, some of the `Mg^(2+)` ions replace `Na^(+)` ions and occupy the sites earlier occupied by `Na^(+)`. To maintain electrical neutrality of the crystal one more `Na^(+)` leaves the lattice, thus generating, cation vacancy equal to number of `Ca^(2+)` ions added. thus impurity defect is produced.

A manufacturer has three machine operators A,B and C. The first operator A produces 1% defective items, whereas the other two operator B and C produce 5% and 7% defective items respectively. A is on the job for 50% of the time,B is on the job 30 % of the time and C is on the job for 20% of the time. A defective item is produced, what is the probability that it was produced by A?
