Advantages of Cross pollination,
1. Cross pollination enhances adaptability of the offspring to changes in the environment.
2. It ovbercomes self-sterility and prepotency found in many economically important plants, For this, orchardists grow two or more varieties of plants in order to ensure better yield.
3. In increases resistance to diseases.
4. It introduces genetic recombinations and hence variations progeny.
5. It eliminates defective traits. The harmful recessive traits remain unexpressed due to phenomenon of heterozygosity.
6. Cross pollination is used to produce new varieties of plants.
7. it may produce better offspring than either of the parents due to phenomenon of hybrid vigour or heterosis.
8. Cross pillination introduces variations due to genetic recombinations.
9. Yield always remains above an average minimum.
10. The offspring formed after cross pollination are better fitted in the struggle for existence.
