Explain why meiosis and gametogenesis are always interlinked?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Meiosis is a special type reductional division, which reduces the chromosome number to half in daughter cells, thean in the parent cell. Meiosis may be (i) zygotic (ii) sporic (iii) gametic. It always results in the formation of haploid cells. While gametogenesis is also a type of meiosis which occurs during the formation of gametes in the sex-cells of sex-organs e.g., spermatogenesis (sperm formation) and oogenesis (egg formation). Gametes are also haploid.
Thus, it is true that meiosis and gametogenesis are always interlinked.
