What do you mean by monosporic development of female gametophyte?

Text Solution

Development of female gametophyte or Megergametophyte (Megagametogenesis). Functional megaspore divides by three free nuclear mitotic divisions (not immediately followed by wall formation) to form 8-nucleate, or 7-celled embryo-sac (= female gametophyte). The development of female gametophyte from megaspore is called megagametogenesis.

The development of embryo-sac in angiosperms Micropylar end is of three types :-

(i) Monosporic. embryo-sac develops from a uninucieate megaspore.
(ii) Bisporic. embryo-sac develops from a Nucleus binucleate megaspore, after meiosis-I cytokinesis occurs, one cell degenerates, and the functional cell undergoes meiosis- II without cytokinesis to form binucleate megaspore.
(iii) Tetrasporic. Megaspore mother cell undergoes meiosis without any cytokinesis resulting in the formation of four-haploid nucleate megaspore.
