Self incompatibility. Pollen grains of a flower do not germinate on the stigma of the same flower due to presence of similar self-sterile genes `S_1 or S_3` in pollan grain and `S_1S_3` in pistil. It ensures cross pollination in potoato, Tobacco, Crucifers, etc.
