Most living organisms cannot survive at temperature above 45°C. How are some microbes able to live in habitats with temperatures exceeding IOO°C ?

Text Solution

Archaebacteria. Thermophiles are ancient forms of bacteria found in hot water springs and deep sea hydrothermal vents they survive at a temperature exceeding 100°C as they contain specialised resistant enzymes, branched chain lipids in cell wall, etc. These enzymes carry out metabolic functions and do not get denatured or destroyed at much high temperature.
