Write short notes on the
Markowrukoff's rule

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Markownikoff.s Rule. The addition of an unsymmetrical reagent like H X (HCI, HBr, HI), `H_2 O` etc, to unsymmetrical alkene takes place in such manner that the negative part of the adding reagent goes to the carbon atom attached to lesser number of hydrogen atoms. For example,
` underset("propene")(CH_3 -CH =CH_2) + overset( delta +)(H) - overset(delta +)X to underset("Isopropyl halide")( CH_3 - overset(X) overset(|) CH - CH_3)`
` underset("propene")(CH_3 -CH =CH_2) + overset( delta +)(H) - overset(delta +)OH to underset("Isopropyl halide")( CH_3 - overset(OH) overset(|) CH - CH_3)`
