Once there was heavy downpour for about 3 hours in the early morning. Irfan and his family were finding it difficulat to carry out their daily morning chores as the sewer water was flowing back into the toilits, th road in front of their house was flooded with water and they could not move out. On this very serious problem Irfan called a meeting of all the residents. In the meeting Irfan discussed th problem and said that we as using too much polythene bags and other plastic items which we throw here and other plastic items which we throw here and there. All these move into the drains and sewer lines which get choked and do not allow flow of water. As these are non-biodegradable, they remain as such for a long time. So to overcome this problem, we should use bags made up of cloth or jute which are biodegradable. (i) Answer the following questions : (i) Name a polymer which is biodegradable. Write the sturctures of monomers and the repeating unit. (ii) Write two uses of this polymer. (iii) Write any two values shown by Irfan.

An atom is assumed to tbe spherical in shape and thus, the size of atom is generally given in terms of radius of the sphere and is called atomic radius. It is usually defined as the distance between the centre of the nucleus and outermost shell where electron are present. The exact measure of atomic radius is not easy due to following reasons: (i) The atom does not have well defined boundary. the probability of finding the electron is never zero even at large distance from the nucleus. (ii) It is not possible to get an isolated atom. the electron density around an atom is affected by the presence of neighbouring atoms, i.e., the size of the atom changes in going from one set of environement to another. (iii) the size of an atom is very small, of the order of about 1.2 Å,i.e., 1.2xx10^(-10)m . An estimate of the size of the atom can, however, be made by knowing the distance betweent he atoms in the combined state. the distance between the atoms, i.e., bond length are generally measured by the application of techniques such as X-ray differaction, electron diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, etc. However, bond lengths change with different type of bonding. Three types of radius are commonly used, i.e., (a) Covalent radius " " (b) crystals radius " " (c) Vander waal's radius The correct order of effective nuclear charge Z_(eff) is

In a village, farmers started cultivating crops all around a lake which was always filled with water. They added lot of materials W to the soil in their fields to increase the yield of crops. Soon they found that the whole surface of water in the lake was covered with a green layer made up of tiny organisms X. After some time, the fish present in the lake started dying in large numbers they could not get sufficient Y due to a process Z which had occurred in lake water and drained out all the Y present in the water of lake. (a) What do you think materials W are ? (b) Name (i) X, and (ii) Y. (c ) What is the process Z known as ? (d) What happens during the process Z which uses up all the Y present in lake water ? (e) What does this example tell us about the use of materials like W ?

Find out the correct pair of statements (i) In completely plasmolysed cell, pressure potential does not contribute to water potential (ii) If a cell is placed in hypotonic solution for longer time , the cell membrane shrinks away from its cell wall (iii) Apoplastic system comprises interconected protoplasts (iv) Polypeptides have more imbibing capacity then polysaccharides
