Calculate the mass of SO(2) gas which w...

Calculate the mass of `SO_(2)` gas which will contain the same number of molecules as present in 4.4 g of `CO_(2)`.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Molar mass of `CO_(2) = 12 + 2 xx 16 g "mol"^(-1)`
= `44 g mol^(-1)`
No. of moles in 4.4 g `CO_(2)`
`=("Given mass")/("Molar mass") = 4.4/(44 g "mol"^(-1)) = 0.1` mol
0.1 mole of `CO_(2)` will contain the same number of molecules as present in 0.1 mole of `SO_(2)` (because equal number of moles contain equal number of molecules). Thus, we have to calculate mass of 0.1 mole of `SO_(2)`.
Molar mass of `SO_(2) = 32 + 2 xx 16 g mol^(-1)`
Mass (m) `= n xx M = 0.1 xx 64 g = 6.4 g`
