What do you understand by fuel efficiency? What role does it play in selecting a fuel?

The efficiency of a fuel is determined by its calorific value.
The amount of heat energy produced on complete combustion of a unit mass of fuel in oxygen is called calorific value of that fuel. It is measured in terms of kilojoules per kilogram i.e., kJ/kg. It plays an important role in selecting a fuel. Higher the calorific value, better is the fuel.
