Compare the water absorption capacities of natural and synthetic fibres. Illustrate with an activity.

Take pieces of cotton and polyester clothes of equal size and thickness. Weigh each piece of cloth separately by placing them in the petridishes. Soak the pieces of cloth in a beaker filled with water and keep them for 2-3 minutes. Now take out one piece at a time and weigh it again in the petridish. Increase in weight is high in cotton than polyester. Cotton, (which is a natural fibre) absorbs more water and polyester (which is a synthetic fibre) absorbs less water.
