Name the substance oxidised and substance reduced in the following reactions :
`PbS+4H_(2)O_(2)toPbSO_(4)+4H_(2)O`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

PbS is getting oxygen to form `PbSO_(4)` therefore, PbS is oxidised. `H_(2)O_(2)` loses oxygen to form `H_(2)O` and therefore, `H_(2)O_(2)` is reduced. `H_(2)O_(2)` has given oxygen. Hence, `H_(2)O_(2)` is the oxidising agent. PbS has gained oxygen. Hence, PbS is the reducing agent.
