Assertion : The speed of soun in solids ...

Assertion : The speed of soun in solids is maximum though density is large.
Reason : The coefficient of elasticity of solid is large.

A

If both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion.

B

If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.

C

If assertion is true but reason is false.

D

If both assertion and reason are false.

The correct Answer is:
A

The velocity of sound in solid is given by, `v = sqrt(E// rho)`. Though `rho` is large for solids, but their coefficient of elasticity E is much larger (compared to that of liquids and gases). That is why `v` is maximum in case of solid.
