A big explosion on the moon cannot be heard on the earth because

Sound needs material medium for its propagation from one place to another. In other words, sound cannot travel through vacuum. Since there is a region between the planets and the earth, where there is vacuum, the sound of explosions taking place on other planes cannot pass through this vacuum. Hence they cannot reach the earth.
