Why is H2S less acidic than H2 Te ?...

Why is `H_2S` less acidic than `H_2` Te ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

This is due to the reason that due to small size of S atom the H-s bond is relatively strong. On the other hand on moving down the group in Sulphur family the size of atom increase. The size of Te is relatively large and H - Te bond is very weak and bond cleavage is easy. So `H_2` Te is more acidic than `H_2 S`.
