What are the characteristics of the transition elements ?

(i) All transition elements are typical metals.
(ii) Transition elements in general, show variable oxidation states. However their most commonly oxidation state is +2.
(iii) Transition elements generally form coloured compounds.
(iv) Transition metal ion form a large number of complex compounds.
(v) Transition metal and many of their compounds show paramagnetic behaviour.
(vi) Transition metals have generally high melting and Boiling Point.
