The tendency of transition metals to from alloys can be explained on basis of their atomic sizes. The atomic size of transition metals are very similar and hence in the crystal lattice, atoms of one metal can readily replaced with atoms of another transition metals. This result in the formation of alloys. For example : Steel( iron alloyed. with carbon).
