`La(OH)_3` is more basic than `Lu(OH)_3`. Due to lanthanoid contraction, the size of lanthanoid ions decreases regularly with the increasing atomic number. According to Fajan.s rule, decreases in size of `Lu^(3+)` ions, increases the covalent character between `Lu^(3+)` and OH ions in `Lu(OH)_3`. Since size of `Lu^(3+) lt La^(3+)`. So `La(OH)_2` is more basic than `Lu(OH)_3`.
