Reduction : If a substance loses oxygen or gains hydrogen during a chemical reaction, it is said to be reduced and such a reaction is called reduction reaction.
Examples:
(i) `CuO + H_2 rarr Cu + H_2O`
In this reaction CuO is reduced to Cu.
(ii) `MnO_2 + 4HCl rarr MnCl_2 + 2H_2O + Cl_2`
In this reaction, `MnO_2` is reduced to `MnCl_2`.
