Electrolytic refining of copper : In the electrolytic refining of copper metal, copper sulphate solution is used as electrolyte.

The apparatus which is shown in fig consists of an electrolytic tank containing acidified copper sulphate solution as electrolyte. A thick strip of impure copper metal is made anode connected to the positive terminal of battery and thin strip of pure copper metal is made cathode which is connected to negative terminal of battery. On passing electric current, pure copper is deposited on the cathode.
