An object of mass 100 kg is accelerated ...

An object of mass 100 kg is accelerated uniformly from a velocity of `5ms^(-1)" to "8ms^(-1)" in "6s`. Calculate the initial and final momentum of the object. Also, find the magnitude of the force exerted on the object.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Here, m = 100 kg
`u=5ms^(-1)`
`v=8ms^(-1)`
t = 6s
Intial momentum of the object = mu
`=100xx5kgms^(-1)`
`=500kgms^(-1)`
Final momentum of the object = mv
`=100xx8kgms^(-1)=800kgms^(-1)`
Let magnitude of force exerted on the object = F
`therefore F=(mv-mu)/t`
`=(800-500)/6N=(300)/6N=50N`
