Explain the shape of `BF_(3)" and " SiF_4` molecules according ro VSEPR theory.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Shape of `BF_3`
the central atom boron has three valence electrons all of these form three bond pairs. `BF_3` molecule is trigonal planar in shape with regular geometry as shown in the figure.

Shape of `SiF_4`
the central atom Si has four valence electrons, all of these form four bond pairs. `SiF_4` molecule is tetrahedral in shape with regular geometry as shown in the figure.
