How stability of a molecule can be determined or measured?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

A molecule is said to be :
(i) stable if `N_b` is less than `N_a` (i.e., `N_(b) gt N_a)`.
(ii) Unstable if `N_b` is less than `N_a` (i.e., `N_(b) lt N_a`).
Here `N_b` is the number of electrons present in bonding orbitals and `N_a` is the number of electrons present in antibonding orbitals.
