Write two dissimilarities between hydrogen and halogens.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Dissimilarities between hydrogen and halogens are as follows:
i) Halogens easily form halide ions `(X^-)` but hydrogen forms hydride ion `(H^-)` only with the alkali metals and alkaline earth metals.
ii) The oxides of fialogen are acidic `(Cl_2O_7)`, whereas the oxides of hydrogen are neutral (e.g., `H_2O` ). The reactivity of hydrogen is very low as compared to halogens.
