Vacuum distillation : Vacuum distillation is used for liquids which decompose at a temperature below their normal boiling points. The boiling point of liquid is lowered by making the pressure lower at the surface of liquid. Therefore, it is a process of distillation which occurs at less than one atmospheric pressure. This distillation is also known as distillation under reduced pressure. For example, the boiling point of glycerine is 559K at 1 atm pressure. But the distillation occurs at 453K under a reduced pressure of 12 mm of mercury .
