Explanation

In this method, given organic compound is heated with concentrated sulphuric acid. The compound containing nitrogen changes into ammonium sulphate. Now ammonium sulphate is heated with excess of sodium hydroxide. It liberates ammonia gas. The liberated ammonia gas is passed into a . standard solution (known volume) of acid (conc. `H_2SO_4` or `HCl`). The acid left unused is estimated by titrating it with known volume of alkali.
