: i) In laboratories, nitrogen is prepared by an aqueous solution of ammonium chloride and sodium nitrite.
`NH_(4)Cl (aq) + NaNO_(2) (aq) rarr N_(2)(g) + 2H_(2)O(l) + NaCl (aq)`
ii) `N_(2)` can also be prepared by thermal decomposition of ammonium dichromate.
`(NH_(4))_(2) Cr_(2)O_(7) overset(Heat)rarr N_(2) + 4H_(2)O + Cr_(2)O_3`
