Why is H2S less acidic than H2 Te ?...

Why is `H_2S` less acidic than `H_2` Te ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Acidic strength depends upon the bond dissociation energy of M-H. Size of the central atom increases down the group. So the bond dissociation energy decreases down the group. Hence, acidic strength increases down the group. Acidic strength is in the order : `H_(2)O` < `H_(2)S` < `H_(2)Se` < `H_(2)Te`.
