Noble gases are almost inert. Why do they form compounds with fluorine and oxygen only ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Noble gases have general electronic configuration of `ns^(2)np^(6)`. Their electronic configuration is highly symmetrical. They have high ionisation enthalpy. Flourine and oxygen are highly electronegative elements. These can cause excitation of electrons from the p-orbitals to vacant d-orbitals in noble gases.
