What is magnification and write an expression for magnification?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Magnification
It is the ratio of the height of image (h.) formed by mirror to the height of object (h)
Magnification, `m =h./h`
Expression for magnification
Now `DeltaABP and DeltaA.B.P` are similar,
`(A.B.)/(AB)=(PA.)/(PA)`
Using sign conventions, we have
`AB=h,A.B.=-h.impliesPA=-u, and PA.=-v`
So, equation (i) becomes
`-h/h=(-v)/(-u)" "implies" "(h.)/h=(-v)/u" "or" "m=(-v)/u" "[:.m=(h.)/h]`
