0.45 gm of an acid with molecular mass 90 g/mole is neutralized by 20 ml of 0.5 N caustic potash. The basicity of the acid is :

A

2

B

4

C

The correct Answer is:
A

`:.` Gram equivalents of an acid
= Gram equivalents of KOH i.e. `(0.45)/( E)= (20xx 0.5)/(1000)`
where E , = Equivalent mass E = `(0.45xx1000)/(20xx 0.5)=45 `
Thus basicity `= (90)/(45) =2`
[`because " Basicity "= ("Molecular mass")/( "Equivalent mass")]`
