Statement -I : If the potential difference applied to an electron is made 4 times, the de-Broglie wavelenght assoiated is halved. (Initial kinetic energy of the electron was zero ). Statement -II : On making potential difference 4 times velocity is doubled and hence according to De -broglie hypothesis lambda is halved.

(a) State Bohr's postulate to define stable orbits in hydrogen atom. How does de Broglie's hypothesis explain the stability of these orbits ? (b) A hydrogen atom initially in the ground state absorbs a photon which excites it to then n = 4 level . Estimate the frequeny of the photon.

(a) Using de Broglie's hypothesis, explain with the help of a suitable diagram, Bolirs seconti pusitiaie of quantization of energy levels in a hydrogen atom. (b) The ground state energy of hydrogen atom is -13.6 eV. What are the kinetic and poientialenegies of the electron in this state?

There are many scientific models proposed and failed . The orpuscular theory is an example of such case . The corpuscular theory given by Newton was later replaced by Huygen's wave theory of light . This was further replaced by Plank's quantum theory and finally by De-Broglie's hypothesis . Comment on the fact that despite failures in the above in the above theories, we stress on the study of all the above given theories .
