माना कि कुल खरीदे गए संतरे 100 थे। तथा प्रत्येक संतरे का मूल्य ₹ 1 था।
`therefore` पहले 40 संतरों पर लाभ = `(100 - 40)/40 xx 100 = 150%`
अतः शेष संतरे के 80% को 75% लाभ पर बेचेगा।
`implies (60 xx 80)/(100) xx (175)/(100) = ₹ 84`
`%` लाभ `= (180- 100)/100 = 84%`
