Can a non-polar molecule have polar covalent bonds?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Yes, it is possible in case of mol.ecules having linear and symmetrical shapes. In them, the bonds are polar bup their polarities cancel out resulting in non-polar molecules. For example, in `CO_(2)` (O=C=O) both the bonds, are polar.`C Cl_(4)` molecule, C0Cl bonds are polar but molecule is non polar in nature.
