Why is diffusion in solids less as compared to the liquids?

In solids, the constituent particles are very closely packed and the number of vacant space are comparatively less as compared to the liquids where the particles are not so closely packed. Therefore, the diffusion in the solids is almost negligible while liquids can diffuse.
